Erica + Bethany: A Sand Ceremony, a Boat Dock Exit, and a Wedding Built Around Family

The porch faced the water, and that’s where it started — Erica and her mom and dad, Bethany and her son Caleb, each having a first look before the two brides ever saw each other. By 5pm, when Erica and Bethany finally stood together at their family’s lake home in Lexington, NC, the whole day already felt like it belonged to them.

Two Paramedics, One Wedding Day

Erica and Bethany met the way a lot of great love stories start lately — at work. Both new EMTs, both grinding through paramedic school together, both ending up on the same shift once they graduated. They moved in together in the spring of 2022, and less than two years later, Erica surprised Bethany with a proposal in a downtown square in Savannah, family and friends gathered around without Bethany having any idea it was coming.

By September 20, 2025, that same steady, show-up-for-each-other energy was written into every detail of their wedding — right down to choosing a private lake house instead of a traditional venue, so the day could be exactly theirs.

The Day, Moment by Moment

Cocktail hour opened at 5:30, right there with the reception, soundtracked by Motown and soul — Marvin Gaye, The Temptations, The Four Tops — while guests settled in around the water. Our K2 DJ Larry handled formal introductions to “Let’s Get Loud” by JLo, bringing in the bridal party before announcing “the newlyweds, Erica and Bethany.”

Dinner leaned into swing standards — Sinatra, Buble, Dean Martin — a request Erica and Bethany made specifically, and one of those small, specific touches that told us exactly who they were as a couple. Toasts came next, with both maids of honor, Allison and Madison, alongside Dylan and Caleb standing up to speak.

First dance was after dinner, to “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” by Boyce Avenue, followed by cake cutting to “You’re All I Need to Get By” and a double bouquet toss that had the whole reception on its feet. From there, the dance floor didn’t slow down — 2000s pop, Chappell Roan, a full-blown FLEX line dance, and enough Journey and Lady Gaga to keep every generation of guests out there together.

As the night wound down, Erica and Bethany shared a private last dance to “The Best” by Nicotine Dolls before their grand exit — walking down through the pool patio to the boat dock and leaving by boat to “The Greatest Show,” from The Greatest Showman. If you’ve never seen a wedding exit happen by water at night with a full soundtrack behind it, it’s a moment that’s hard to top.

What K2 Weddings Brought to the Day

Erica and Bethany booked our Ultimate Wedding Day package, which meant DJ services and soft white uplighting worked together to transform the beach-adjacent setup between ceremony and reception into something warm and cohesive as the sun went down. Our K2 videographers were there from 2pm through the boat exit, capturing everything from the porch-side first looks to the sand ceremony to that last dance before the couple disappeared across the water.

Days built around family homes instead of traditional venues take more coordination — different sound needs, different lighting considerations, timing that has to flex around a private property instead of a venue’s usual flow. It’s exactly the kind of day our K2 DJs and videographers are built to handle together, under one contract, so nothing falls through the cracks between vendors.

The Vendor Team Behind the Day

A wedding like this comes together because everyone on site knows how to work with each other, so a quick thank-you to the team we shared this day with:
